Healthy Kidz and Basketball NI Deliver a number of Impactful Programmes Across Northern Ireland
Healthy Kidz, working alongside Basketball NI, has delivered a range of basketball programmes across Northern Ireland. Activities took place in Coleraine, Derry, Belfast, Magherafelt, Lurgan, and Dungannon, giving young people the chance to get active, learn new skills, and enjoy the game in a positive environment.
Programme Highlights
Half-term camps in Lurgan and Coleraine gave kids the chance to build skills, stay active, and have fun in an inclusive setting which included GR content.
The TEO Schools Programme reached 16 schools across several areas, introducing pupils to basketball while helping them build confidence, teamwork, and basic movement skills. It also included Good Relations workshops to encourage respect and understanding.
Good Relations Basketball Blitz Days brought young people together in Derry, Coleraine, Lurgan, and Dungannon, using sport to connect different communities and promote inclusion.
The Jr. NBA Festival of Fun was another big highlight, with sessions in Belfast, Derry, and Magherafelt. It gave many Primary 7 pupils their first experience of basketball and showed growing interest in the sport.
An eight-week Schools Outreach Programme, delivered with the Jr. NBA, is also underway, finishing with a Festival of Fun celebrating all the schools involved.
Impact
The programme reached a large number of young people, giving them more opportunities to get active, try something new, and connect with others.
By mixing basketball with Good Relations activities, it also helped create welcoming spaces where young people could come together, build friendships, and learn from each other.
Overall, the partnership between Healthy Kidz and Basketball NI is helping grow the game while supporting both physical and social development.
