UNITED YOUTH INITIATIVE Brings Young People Together at Cross-Border Event in Dundalk through PEACEPLUS Funding
Over 100 young people from Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland came together on Friday 10th April 2026 at Dundalk Institute of Technology for a cross-border event as part of the PEACEPLUS funded ‘United Youth Initiative’.
United Youth Initiative works with young people aged 9–18 years, delivering programmes across youth club settings throughout Northern Ireland and border counties of Ireland. The programme is delivered by Healthy Kidz as lead partner, alongside PeacePlayers NI, Boys and Girls Club NI and Dundalk Institute of Technology ‘H2O Heroes’.
The event in Dundalk brought together young people from diverse backgrounds to participate in shared learning experiences through sport, good relations and environmental activities. These activities helped to build positive relationships, promote mutual understanding and highlight both the differences and shared experiences of young people across communities.
A key feature of the event was the introduction of the United Youth Initiative Ambassador Programme, with many of the selected ambassadors taking part on the day. This element of the programme supports young people to develop leadership skills, confidence and a deeper understanding of civic and community engagement.
Through their involvement, ambassadors will be empowered to act as role models within their communities, helping to promote positive relations and inclusion. They represent the next generation of civic and community leaders and peace builders, and will gain valuable experience and skills that will support their future education and career pathways.
Participants also engaged in a range of team-based sporting activities, interactive good relations workshops and environmental initiatives, creating opportunities to learn from one another while developing confidence, teamwork and respect.
United Youth Initiative is a project supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
The event represents an important milestone in the delivery of the programme, providing meaningful cross-community engagement and contributing to the development of a more inclusive and cohesive society.
