United Youth Initiative Celebrates Major Milestone as 5,000 Young People Engage in Programme
United Youth Initiative reaches 5,000 participants as partners work together to deliver opportunities for young people across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland
United Youth Initiative is supported through PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). The programme is celebrating a significant milestone, with 5,000 young people now having participated in the PEACEPLUS-funded programme across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland.
Delivered through a partnership involving Healthy Kidz, PeacePlayers Northern Ireland, Boys & Girls Clubs Northern Ireland and H2O Heroes, the United Youth Initiative uses sport, Good Relations, environmental learning and shared experiences to bring young people from different communities and backgrounds together.
Reaching 5,000 participants represents an important milestone for the programme and demonstrates the strength of partnership working at the heart of its delivery.
Since delivery began, the partner organisations have combined their expertise, networks and experience to create meaningful opportunities for young people aged 9–18 to meet, learn and participate together.
Through youth clubs and community settings, participants have taken part in a wide range of activities designed to develop confidence, strengthen relationships and encourage greater understanding between young people from different backgrounds.
The programme combines sport and physical activity, Good Relations and peacebuilding, environmental learning and creativity, creating shared experiences through which young people can build friendships, challenge perceptions and develop new skills.
The programme has been designed to increase meaningful contact between young people from different communities while providing opportunities to develop skills, confidence and understanding through shared learning and activity.
The milestone also reflects the contribution of the youth organisations, community groups, staff, coaches, facilitators and volunteers who have supported delivery across participating communities.
The United Youth Initiative partnership thanked everyone who has helped the programme reach 5,000 participants and, most importantly, the young people who have embraced the opportunity to take part.
With delivery continuing, the partners will now build on the milestone as they work towards engaging even more young people and creating further opportunities for shared learning, positive relationships and stronger, more inclusive communities.
